Bridge by a very circuitous route (25x for me)

Harlan W S + Kris B.
Nov 27, 2012

We planned a more agresive descent down Goodman, but Kris (Barb's nephew) got "rerouted" on his plane fight back from Greece, and his feet were shod in worn-out trail-runners... and he was working on 2 hours of sleep!

Here's an overview of the route,
as you might see from a plane flying
at 8000' south of Bridge. The
route ascends from Pine Creek
(Fern Canyon) to the notch between
Bridge Point (R) and Bridge (L).
From there one drops down on
the other side of the ridge...
vu from ENE (GE)
...to the route shown here, as if
one were flying at ~7000', viewing
Bridge to the WSW. Both this and
the previous image are google earth
synthetics, and tend to blur the
sharper features.
vu from ENE
This view is similar to the
last, but is a real photo,
taken from ~6400' on a
ridge that is ENE
of Bridge.

DSCN1092
We're heading toward Mescalito, and will
soon take the canyon at R.
DSCN1093
This is the first significant obstacle,
a steep, slick sandstone ramp.
Kris used his rock-climbing
balance to make it up, despite his
nearly-worn-flat shoes.

to leave Fern Canyon

View SW, as we climb up the
ramps on the N side of
Fern Canyon.

DSCN1097
This is the infamous "black wall"
on the way up to Bridge Point
saddle.

climb the wall. Photo by Kris B.

DSCN1108 DSCN1109
I was so absorbed in
route-finding, that I didn't take
another photo till we were on
the E side of Bridge. This is
the "step-across," another
memorable challenge.  There is
a lot of exposure to the L.
DSCN1111
We drop down and enter the NE gully
on Bridge, View to NE.
DSCN1111IMG_1537
View SW, up the gully.
The route covers some steep
and slick sandstone. Photo
by Kris B. Kris did very well
 here, considering his shoes!

View back NE, past the
red ridge used to take the 3rd
photo.
DSCN1116
We've finally topped the steep gully.
DSCN1118
Past string-of-beads pools...
DSCN1119
A lot of the water was frozen, which
made for treacherous footing.
DSCN1121
Now we climb out of the lower section
of the HIdden Forest.
DSCN1122
One must carefully creep over this
bulge.
DSCN1123
Now Mike is on the last ramp system to the
top of Bridge.
DSCN1124
Ta-da! On top.
