GPS trace; purple for my 2007 route, red for the 2011 route, blue for the trip up the Butts. |
Tom B with Little Corkscrew in back. |
At the saddle, looking south to Little C. |
Jim went straight for the top, I headed up to the N end... |
...here's Jim's view of me to N. I thought it would be cool to walk right along the knife edge... but I had to step off for a moment when the sticky rock pulled off my shoe! |
Tom next... |

Little C to S as we head up the peak. |

Next day I headed for the Butts. |
It was pleasantly exposed. |
I never expecteed such a fun place. It was pretty easy to stay on safer rock. |

I tried to stay on the very edge most of the way down. |

I read Zdon's account, which described a "parking area" 0.5 W of the junction. I thought I should pull in here to be off the road (the signs just said NO CAMPING and NO FIRES)... and almost got a $500 citation for "off-road driving." Once the ranger realized I wasn't a jerk, he dropped the citation. Later I put up these piles of rocks to prevent someone else from making the same mistake. (In NV, you will get a ticket if you DON'T pull off the shoulder.) |
