View of Charleston, from NLT

west of junction with Trail Canyon.

View UP at “Mountaineer’s Route” on

Mummy – the upper part of

Branch Whitney’s “Mummy the hard

way.” The takeoff point from the NLT

is in a ravine at 2910m (I didn’t go

up this way; steep hard snow above).

Now I’m above the scree slope,

looking E at 2nd and 3rd class

chutes.

If you keep to the rock (3rd class,

some loose) you can avoid most

snow on the traditional scree

route to Mummy.

Near the base of the last cliff band,

view toward bottom of 3rd class chute.

IMG_8175

50’ farther uphill, view back.

IMG_8177

Bottom of 3rd class chute; no snow,

but ice in lower crack.

The NLT may still be a problem.

Those with rock and snow skill may

try the Devil’s Thumb shortcut.

IMG_8194

Mummy’s Nose is bare on the S side.

IMG_8196

McFarland, Macks, and Sisters

are mainly bare on the S sides.

The S-facing Mummy scree slope is bare.
