It’s safer on the rock…

Finally, the last stretch of snow.  I went to the

3rd-class chute, rather than the 2nd-class chute,

because I trusted rock more than the slick snow.

Mysterious one-legged man.

I found it very hard to balance on mud.

You must Whippet.

By the Cave Spring, I came across 3 guys who wanted to spend the night on the NLT, and go over Charleston to the SLT. They were wearing tennis shoes, and one guy had all sorts of stuff dangling from his pack, including an old-style rectangular synthetic sleeping bag. They asked me if the loop would be a problem. I advised them not to go past Devil's Thumb. I said a lot of stuff, but mainly I was trying to get them to realize how much snow they might hit up high, and how slick it would be in the shadows.
