New York Mountains with LVMC

Seven intrepids met at the Silverton in Henderson, then drove to the “trailhead” in about 1.5 hours.  It was very windy, but all made the peak. The hike is mainly a pleasant slog, partly over a chaotic and scenic ridge; till the last 200 vertical feet – where there is an interesting class 3+ route up a rocky pinnacle.  Previous trip and more details: here.  (Some say I should call this class 4—especially the last chute where hard gray lichen covers much of the rock.)

View S from top; unfortunately I’m nearly shooting into the sun.  Next Josh and I hurried down…

…So that I could show Kim the route.  This view is ~straight down.

IMG_0912

There is a very narrow slot on top; Kim has just emerged from the slot and is down-climbing.

Kim signs in.  It was so windy I was blown off balance while taking the pic.

Chris waited on top for our return.

IMG_0914c

Chris took this great shot S across the top.  I was holding 50’ webbing in my hand, which blew out like a flag at times.

Kim contorts her body to downclimb the chute.

We’re near the bottom, and Nick gets a good pic of Kim, Chris and me.
