Red and White Peak Wilderness HiPts, NV (S of Ely, near Currant Mt)

I had to bail on the 2nd day of this trip due to back issues.  The driving was more taxing than the hiking! The route to Red had a confusing sign that suggested the start of the last spur road was the beginning of the wilderness boundary, and the end of driving; in reality, the wilderness boundary was a mile farther on. The road to White was up-and-down HC for many miles, only the last 2-3 requiring 4wd.  Since the day was warm, we drove to about 500' below the summit.

Overview map.
The roads between
Red and White were
decent, but with a lot
of up-and-down.

Our campsite.
This was a warm
weekend, but by 4PM
the shade made it
comfortable.

Partway up Red,

Currant is made of
limestone/dolostone,
while the reddish
foothills are
weathered rhyolites

There was a largely
unreadable wad of paper
in a degraded plastic
bag; I could make out
"Simi Valley" so this may
be from MacLeod and

Now at White. We
drove somewhat harrowing
roads to get to 9100',
where it was just 78F.

the benign roads on
the last plateau. Getting
to that point was more
interesting.
