Jarbidge Range, as viewed from W. We went
up on R side.

The night before, as we were driving in from
Rogerson (Idaho), we had this view of the
range from the NE.  Matterhorn, the
highest peak, is at L.
DSCN3635
Next morn, we started up the road from
the campsite.
DSCN3637 DSCN3639
This is the "old" trailhead.  There is no
maintained trail to Matterhorn, but there
is a cairn by a faint use trail.

DSCN3655
Abandoned stove at 10000'. There
was a lot of mining in this area.
DSCN3657
I waited a long time at the saddle. Bart and
I both waited, until the flies drove him crazy.
I continued to wait until I saw Larry, who
told me the others were on lunch break...
so I headed on, and found Bart was
doing an optional hard stretch.

DSCN3708
Bronco Bill (famous Jarbidge resident)
had just put up this post in the morning
before we arrived!
DSCN3709 DSCN3713
View N to Jarbidge Peak. This would have
been an easy bag, but most of the
group was tired, and I opted for the
route W down to the stream. Some of us
had to leave that evening for Vegas!

On top of Jumbo.

Eric drove up to pick up Bart, so they
could get an "early" start on the drive back
to Vegas (Eric had a presentation at 9AM!).
DSCN3731
Heather and friend!
DSCN3733
Next morn, Susan and I drove back to Elko
via the (slow) scenic western route.
DSCN3744
We stpped for about 15 minutes while the
exasperated cowboys tried to cross the
road with steers.
DSCN3747
We were assigned site 6 at the Spring Creek
camping area. I think this sign was there
6 years back, so I guess they need to update
their maps.
DSCN3747RubyGoogle
View SSW via Google Earth. Next morn,
we left the Hennen Canyon TH at 5:45AM,
then headed SSW up the canyon. This time
(vs. 2007) we went up the east side, in the col
between Ruby Pyramid and Ruby Dome.

Early in the morn, Susan slogs up. We didn't
hit sun till we were at 10000'.

Polemonium (Sky Pilot) as I head up
Ruby Dome. The flowers are pollinated by
flies up here, and the plant tends to stink more
than the equivalent in the Sierra.
DSCN3777
Finally I am on the top ridge of Ruby Dome;
Susan is ahead. I wasn't rushing, but hit both
peaks in 4 h 18m.
DSCN3778
More Polemonium.
