Ugly Brown Lump

For years, I have wanted to climb Ugly Brown Lump (east of Kyle Canyon), but for some reason, no one would accompany me.  I’d ask, “Do you want to climb Ugly Brown Lump?” and the answer would take the approximate form: “NO!”

Here’s the 100k GPS map.  I walked the road, after seeing “no motorized vehicles” at the NE exit on 157.  However, the SW exit has no such posted restrictions.

Here’s the 24K map with GPS trace. The actual prominence is ~1200+. But you will gain nearly 2500’ accumulated, if you start from the road.

This is the view to the east as the peak is approached. The ridge at R offers the most interesting ascent, with a few low class 3 sections.

I expected to see an old-time register, not one placed 45 days earlier.  John Vitz has been prominent in the DPS for at least 40 years.  “Abul-De” is probably a reference to the Zoroasteran mystic.
