Context map. The approach
is via Late Night Parking
off rte 160, to the climber's
BV lot. HC vehicle
recommended.

Close-up of route.
BV canyon is so
narrow that a GPS
will not track well.
We went to the ridge
highpoint, then down
to the official BV peak,
which is atop the
rock climber's wall.
We took a short
sidetrip to Whiskey
Peak on the way down.
|
2019, my buds
head W. BV is
the actually BV
peak, but not
the ridge highpoint.
BB stands for
Burlap Buttress,
and Mon is
Monument.

Flashback to 2001.
This is the 1st climby
spot; I hardly noticed
in 2001, despite my
non-sticky boots.

There are lots of
steep slabs, and a
big memory from
2001 was my boots
constantly slipping.
Sticky rubber stops
that.
|
At limestone, view E.
The middle peaklet
is the range highpoint
(HP), immediately left is
the "true" BV peak.
|
From whence we came
|
The range HP is
in back; the lump
at R contains the
first two obstacles
of the ridge.
|
The first obstacle
is a tunnel that
allows one to
bypass a cliff
|
|
The next obstacle
is the bypass of a
minor peaklet, either
on left (class 2-3)
or R (class 4)
|
Flashback to 2001,
view ~W. Nick N and
Doc Z come along
the "light blue line"
in previous photo...
|
...the right side requires
traversing a ledge. It
doesn't look it, but
there is significant
exposure on R. Note
the pink dot. I usually
take the dark blue
route. NOT the same
as blue lines 2 photos
back.
|
Flashback to 2005.
It appears most
folks start near the
light blue line
(previous photo)
and step down to the
dark blue
|
From the other side
of the crux, I watch
as Jodie (2018)
crosses
|
2018 again. She starts
high then steps down.
|
Now we look ahead
to E. The ridge can
be traversed on the
very top, with a few
sketchy downclimbs,
but there is also a
bypass on R just
before HP

The "true BV" is
at L

The true BV looks
impressive from this
angle (view ~W),
2007 trip.
|
East Peak is the
nubble at R of
Monument ridge.
|
There is a rock
climber's walk-off
down the NE side of
the ridge, very
well-cairned, but
steep and loose.
