So on Jan 28, 2025, I had a spectacular non-outdoor fall that broke 5 ribs, popped a lung, and gave me a bad concussion that challenged my balance. I started walking around my street, then around Horse Mt. near me, and everything jostled my ribs. |
||
![]() By Mar.16 I was ready for something new to me. My ribs still hurt. I picked "The Knoll," also known as "Wilson's Pimple" and "Potato Knoll." |
![]() I have avoided this particular trail for 15 years because dog poop is all over. 10% of dogs carry active C diff infections, and the bacterium can last a year outdoors in poop. People get colonized, and don't realize until they get strong antibiotics years later. |

For the next 6 of 7 weeks, I tried to hike with folks or at least meet them. |

![]() By April 28, I was looking for unfinished business. I screwed up my knee, then my back... ironically from physical therapy for my ribs. |
![]() April 28 I went to some little peaklets that I had driven by for 23 years-- it turned out they had been named 12-step Peak, Recovery Hill and Serenity Prayer Hill. |
![]() View SSW on 12-step. |

![]() The houses at R below, belong to a drug rehab center, hence the names. |

![]() I think this is Rainy Peak to S |
![]() The register box on Recovery Hill is absolutely jammed full of slips of paper from the folks at rehab center. |
![]() Balance is better. I walked on curbs, did vestibular exercises, and Epley to move otoliths knocked free during concussion. Note knee brace. |
![]() These guys were very quiet, on way up Serenity Prayer. |

![]() On May 03, 2025 I went back for Pondview and Barricade. I drove past these since 2008, on the Harris Springs Road, on the many times we went over Madre Peaks from the N. |
![]() I had tweaked my back 2 days before, so I went up Pondview slowly and steadily in less than 50 minutes. |
![]() View to Fletcher and Mummy from Pondview, with eponymous pond. |

![]() The very worst part of Harris Springs Rd is to the N of where I parked. There is a steep downhill that has gotten rutted by all the 4x4s and ATVs since 2008. |
