Brake Factor
of supermunter on 3.2mm (1/8") Amsteel is > 40
This was an Attache carabiner (old style); the brake factor
varies with biner.
I used dumbbells attached to the “brake hand strand,”
starting with 15 lbs and stepping gradually down to 2lb. The 2lb slipped a
little, the 3lb did not slip at all. The
line is slightly bent in the photo, but I still didn’t budge when I leaned to
get it straight down. I weighed between 144 and 146 lbs with my clothes and
harness at this time, so the brake factor would be calculated as >144/3 =
48.
