MJ Peak via Mummy South Ridge (Nevada near Vegas)

Harlan W S & Maxie J
Oct 01 , 2015

MJ Peak is named after Maxie Jamie (all-around good person).  It got that name via confused reading of registers, but the name stuck. Though it has just 115' of prominence (relative to a very narrow saddle), it is harder to reach than any peak in the Mummy chain.  The three times I've climbed it, I've descended a cliff, twice unroped.  This time we wanted to see what a rappel would be like over that same cliff.  We also wanted to introduce Maxie to "her" peak.

I first reached this peak with Barb S and Mike B in 2014, no register on top then.

Here's the route.  You could just
take the scree slope up Mummy,
or slog up the awful talus
 descent route (the latter avoids
the nasty downclimb). We took
the South Ridge for fun.
