MJ (and Mummy) via Deer Cr. Picnic Area
(rte 158 near Las Vegas)

June 19, 2021 (and views back to 2014).

There are several routes up MJ Peak, whose history is here.
The routes shown here vary from a class 1-2+ stairmaster-type grind, to a rather scary class 4 ledge route direct from the Mummy summit. The creepy traverse is the first route I took long ago, and deserves to be updated with the easier methods.

A GPS summary is here, with multiple tracks; use it at your own risk. These routes involve lots of cliffs, and gps units may go screwy near cliffs.
(Note: don't just click on the link in a browser; on a PC, right-click and use the "save link" or "save as" dialog; on a phone, "long-press" and pick "download link" or "save link as".)

This was my first time above 11,500' in a year. I had kidney stones and then a severe case of COVID-19, and had noticeable "brain fog" till last month.

Start at the Deer Cr
Picnic Area parking
(NOT at the NLT
trailhead). Try to find
the ridge shown here;
there are remnants
of old fire roads and
a few cairns. Staying on
one ridge will make
life a lot easier.

Where the ridge
hits the cliffs, go
NW to gully 2a,
which is quite narrow.
This is a rocky 3+
route. Click on this

reference is made to
this map and the "dots"
therein.

This google earth

tracks, shows the
gross inaccuracy of
the USGS topo map--
