Notch can be seen from Wheeler Peak, Nevada; it looks almost unreal, so far away, the small silhouette just hinting at the 6000' cliffy drop on the western side. The hike from the east is just class 2 for the main peak; the traverse north from there, and particularly the descent back to the trailhead from the northern peaks, can be a lot dicier. The road was mainly driveable by passenger car, but the last few miles want modest to high clearance, and slow driving. Link to trip report for Notch
