I first went up this peak from the south, not realizing that I was actually walking across Howard Hughes Corporation land; there were no signs forbidding entry. (It turns out that BLM originally owned this land -- which has lots of petroglyphs -- but swapped it for the land that is now below the Red Rock Visitors Center.) I later went on pure public land, via the ridge to Summerlin Peak, "Woody," and beyond. If one goes through Box Canyon, the trip becomes more exciting than the mountain, with some hairy climbs.
