I first went up La Madre from a northern route in 2002; my life would soon change a lot. Since then I've been up many times -- twice from other northern routes, but mainly from the south. The northern or ridge routes avoid a nasty talus stretch, at other expenses; but southern routes out of Sandstone Quarry are accessible by passenger car, and mainly require that you be able to polish off a rugged 4000' gain hike before the Red Rock Scenic Loop closes for the night.
