This area, the Hualapai Mountains near Kingman AZ, is great for "shoulder-season" treks. The mountain often have low-snow in late spring and early fall, yet are cool enough for comfortable hikes. Dean Peak is a dramatic-looking pinnacle, as seen from the paved road to the visitor booth at Hualapai State Park. You don't need to pay a fee to hike to Dean; park on the east side of the road, and start up the old maintenance road for the communications station. At the end of the road, life and terrain gets rough. Go to the NE side of Dean for a class 2+ route... else take a class 4 route on the SE side. Link to trip report for Dean Peak
