It is possibly a case of "not invented here" that Branch Whitney considered this to be the best peak in the region. It isn't the highest, but does have a fairly good view of the other peaks, and a more "exciting" class 4 route than Dove (if your definition of "exciting" accepts "crumbling rock"). I would recommend it, to get the full spectrum of experiences for the Castle Peaks of the California Mojave. As discussed in the "Dove" entry, this set of peaks pushes the idea of easy access by vehicle; however, I drove there in a 2003 Outback wagon before that car had full skid plates, and the roads are generally free from washouts. I recommend high clearance, slow driving, and good tires. Link to Castle Peak CA (South, peak 2 in summitpost)
